Hyperborea

An audiovisual live set

INFO

Audiovisual Live Set

The purpose of this work is to create a visual counterpart of “Hyperborea” Ep, released on RXSTNZ Records by Andrea Giomi. The idea is to enhance some key-concepts of that musical work, particularly the contrast between spontaneous urban vegetation and post-industrial landscape, or the interrelation between natural and artificial/ organic and inorganic. Some of these evocative images are used both as metaphors and principles to generate the structural relationships between sound and image. Unlike most audiovisual performances, this work is strictly based on the interaction between sound structures and visual 3D cells. Different aspects of musical structures are use to activate, through the 3D cellular generation, some typical functions and behaviors of living organisms. Through Osc protocols, Fabio Brusadin and Andrea Giomi create a multimodal network where MaxMsp and Quartz Composer communicate through several levels of complexity. In the mid level, the different textures of Andrea Giomi’s dub techno soundscapes determine the cellular structures and the movement typologies of the visual organisms realized by Fabio Brusadin. In the low level, the spectral and dynamical qualities of the single sound object influences the micro-variations of the 3D cells. Finally, in the high level, musical macro-gestures produce the activation of different visual filters. In this sense, “Hyperborea” focuses on organic behavior of visual abstract structures, aiming to enhance the potential “liveness” of electronic music.
